I’ve attended to the Google conference @ The King’s Place today to learn something new, it’s better than just sitting in the office, doing the same thing every day without realizing the world has changed.
It started with Matt Brittin, the managing director of Google UK telling us how important is the online community these days. Had such a great time experiencing the presentation from Bettina Sherick, the VP of International Marketing at 20th Century Fox, which she told us that she started her very first website by using Frontpage building it in 1997 (I was doing that too but in 2002) – she’s such an awesome lady! Then, Will Page (in which I know someone really fancy him) came on the stage and talked about the music industry in the online world. The main thing they talked about is the Insights, Ideas, Implementation and Impact, and also how important the online communities are these days by using the channel, such as Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and more.
The most interesting part is of course with all the badass knowledge that Matthew Trewhella showed us. Man, this dude is so awesome. He’s the product manager of Google UK and this is the second time I saw him and still I’m so impressed because every of his speech is full of knowledge and I had to write it down really quick and pay 100% of the concentration at the same time. I think the main highlight of his speech is the importance of running our web applications on Google’s infrastructure so it’s easy to build, maintain and scale – I’ve noted it down code.google.com and of course not to forget about HTML5 as well.
Then, it’s a coffee break time. I had 3 cupcakes in 10 minutes because they’re too good! I wanted more but I got too full, the caramel and coffee one is definitely the best!
Moving on, Ian Carrington gave us a talk about the importance of mobile use these days. The cloud computing is exciting with the voice recognition and all that. The best thing he showed is the Google googles which you can take picture and track the information from it. That bit is awesome! Then, Bruce Daisley, the head of YouTube and Display came to the stage, showing us the most popular videos and the most creative videos on YouTube this year. Carry on, it’s the presentation from the EA’s VP, Keith Ramsdale, talking about the future of gaming which involves 365 24/7 community support, and the mobile in the future. “If you don’t change, you get left behind.” Oh, and the FIFA 2011 trailer he showed there is so amazing. Since I’m from the gaming industry, I’ve learned a lot from his speech. Video game isn’t a person who’s sitting in front of the TV and play it alone anymore, which means online play has become a “must” for every video games from now on. Also, video game isn’t anti-social anymore because players get to interact with each other these days. I’ve learned loads from this part, especially building and maintaining the community and also I get an idea on how future gaming world is like as well.
The last session featured the YouTube community manager, Jamie Dolling with the top 3 YouTube superstars, Charlieissocoollike, Katers17 and Nerimon. From this part, I’ve learned that branding yourself is important nowadays. In the old days, people get famous with certain brands but these days, a brand could get famous by someone blogging it and telling people about it. You can’t get famous if you’re not getting involved to your community these days, interaction has become very essential.
And it ended up with some food and drinks, wrote this quite quickly, might have some mistakes. But it’s a very great conference and very amazing presentation, there’s a lot I’ve learned and picked up but for some bits I couldn’t manage to express out in words or sentences because it’s too technical, but I’ve got the idea of it from my mind! It’s a great experience after all.
The freebies! Yes this outdoor speaker is awesome, definitely going to use it during the picnic in the next summer!
